Anne Frank was born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. Anne had been living in Amsterdam with her Jewish family during the time of World War II. Anne Frank was around the age of thirteen when her family had to go into hiding because of the Nazi’s persecution of the Jews. While hiding Anne had wrote about her many experiences during the war in a diary. After hiding for two years Anne’s family had been found by officials and sent to camps, where she later died. Anne’s writing in her diary has been gone on to be read by millions. You can read about her experiences in the novel "The Diary of Anne Frank". Patton had been involved in other wars, including World War I, but it was during World War II that he hit the highest point in his wonderful military career. Patton led the third army into France during World War II in 1944. Patton was also very skilled at tank warfare. Patton contributed in World War II in many ways. General Patton helped Allies to a victory during the invasion of Sicily. He also was an involvement in the freeing Germany from the Nazis. He later died on December 21, 1945 in Heidelberg, Germany. Mr. Patton was, and is still today, considered one of the most successful combat generals in US history for his fierce determination and ability to lead soldiers. Eugene Black http://holocaustlearning.org/survivors/eugene-black Eugene Black was born in Jeno Schwartz in Munkacs, Czechoslovakia in 1928. He lived a happy life with his three sisters, one brother, mother and father. Eugene’s mother was from an orthodox Jewish family, but his father was not part of the Jewish religion. Although his mother was Jewish, religion did not play a big part of Eugene’s childhood. Although soon it later did. In November of 1938 the area in which Eugene’s family lived was given to Hungary. The German forces later came, in 1944, and occupied Hungary completely. The Germans had forced the Jews to wear the star of David on their clothes and the Jews were ordered to move into the ghetto. One day while Eugene was on his way home from school German Officials were outside his home. He saw the officials board his family onto the lorry. Eugene was not able to get inside his home and was forced to go on the lorry with the rest of his family. Eugene was sent to Auschwitz Birkenau, and stayed there for ten days before being shipped to Little Camp at Buchenwald and then on to Dora Mittelbau in the Harz mountains, to manufacture rockets for the Germans. Finally on 15th April Eugene was freed upon the arrival of the British Army, and survived the horrible things that happened to him at the camps. General Hideki Tojo was the prime minister of Japan from October of 1941 to July of 1944. He was an aggressive army General and had became minister of war in July of 1941. When he attempted to improve Japan’s relations with the US and failed, Tojo ordered to go to war. His first attack was on Pearl Harbor, killing many Americans. Hideki had resigned from minister when he came to the conclusion that Japan was not going to win the war. When the war came to an end, Tojo was killed for his responsibility to Japan's war crimes and horrible acts. Winston Churchill http://www.history.com/topics/british-history/winston-churchill Churchill was the prime minister of Great Britain from 1940 to 1945 and then later on again from 1951 to 1955. Winston Churchill had led Britain's fight against Nazi Germany during World War II. Churchill was a great oral presenter and gave many speeches during this time to those in his country to boost national morale during the war. Churchill had been a close friend of American presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman. Mr.Churchill had hopes to join American forces to defeat Stalin and his ability to dominate European affairs. In January of 1943 Prime Minister Winston Churchill had met with Franklin D. Roosevelt to plan attacks on Italy and Sicily, to send forces near the pacific and to help better aid the Soviet Union. |
